How does the Pimsleur Language Program differ from other language learning methods?
The Pimsleur Language Program is the only self-instructional language series requiring no printed material and no classroom time. The Pimsleur Method utilizes an audio-only format, based on Dr. Paul Pimsleur's extensive research that proves sound is the most natural medium for learning a language. It is based on developing listening and speaking skills, since this is how verbal communication, in any language, takes place.
Can I learn a foreign language without memorizing vocabulary lists?
Yes. The Pimsleur Language Programs offer an interactive memory training technique based on Graduated Interval Recall. Rather than asking the student to repeat words or sentences, the CD will pose a challenge, asking a question which can be answered by using information previously learned. After the question, there is a pause, giving the student time to respond. And then the correct answer is given. Each time the student is reminded of a word and its use, the retention of that information is boosted until it becomes part of the student's permanent memory. This simple system revolutionized language training.
